AI Engineer (AI Agents)

We’re working with an established renewable energy business that’s building out an AI agent platform, and they’re looking for an AI Engineer — a strong software engineer to build and run AI agents that deliver real value across the business, and to help mature the platform itself.

You’ll join a small, high-standards Data & AI team. Most of your time will be spent writing production Python and shipping agents from prototype to live, governed, monitored systems, with a meaningful share improving the shared infrastructure everyone builds on.

What you’ll do
• Build and deploy AI agents on the platform, owning delivery from design through to production — monitored and governed
• Write production-grade Python back-ends and services that expose agents to the business
• Contribute to the platform itself — reusable components, deployment patterns, session and cost handling, and integrations
• Uphold engineering standards through PR reviews, testing and documentation
• Work alongside the AI and Data Engineering teams to take agents from backlog to production

What you’ll bring
• 4+ years’ software-engineering experience, with production Python at the core
• Demonstrable experience building Python back-ends (APIs, services) and deploying to production
• Solid engineering practice — version control, CI/CD, testing, code review and documentation
• Practical cloud-deployment experience (Azure, AWS or GCP), including containerisation basics
• The ability to own delivery end-to-end in a structured enterprise environment
• A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or another quantitative field, or equivalent experience

Advantageous
• Hands-on with LLM APIs, tool use and prompt management
• AI agents, AI gateways, eval frameworks, and agent monitoring / cost tracking
• MCP server development, and Microsoft 365 / Graph API integration
• Enterprise AI governance and access control (Entra ID / SSO)

Working model
Hybrid in Cape Town — three days a week in the office.
