Business Analyst (Fund Administration, SQL, API Integration)

This is the seat where investment operations meets the systems that carry it. A Cape Town fund services business is growing its ICT team and is looking for a business analyst who knows the securities lifecycle properly — settlements, custody, corporate actions, reconciliations, NAV support, asset servicing — and can turn what the operations teams need into technical designs an engineering team can actually build.

It is a hands-on analyst role rather than a documentation one. You will specify integrations, model data, write the SQL yourself when you need the answer, define what automation and machine learning work requires to be reliable, and stay with a change through testing and implementation. Controls run through all of it: this is a regulated environment, so auditability and evidence are designed in at the start, not retrofitted when somebody asks.

What you’ll do

• Gather technical requirements and design solutions for asset administration, translating operational problems into integration and system designs.
• Drive asset administration process improvement end to end, from root-cause analysis through to implementation.
• Specify integrations against middleware, message queues and ETL tools, and design the APIs and data models that support them.
• Define what AI and intelligent automation need in order to work: data and validation requirements, the model metrics to interpret, and the monitoring to put around them.
• Build out the data and reporting the business runs its decisions on.
• Document requirements, data mappings and test plans, and write user stories and acceptance criteria that a delivery team can work from.
• Run testing and implementation, and support internal and external audits with the evidence they need.
• Coordinate with data engineering so integration and pipeline work lands together rather than in sequence.
• Manage stakeholders across trading, operations, custody, fund accounting and vendor partners, and run cross-functional workshops that bridge ICT and the business.

What you’ll need

• At least 5 years as a business analyst, systems analyst or similar within ICT, supporting asset management and fund administration.
• Experience in fund accounting, transfer agency or prime broker operations.
• Deep knowledge of settlements, custody, corporate actions, reconciliations, NAV support and asset servicing, and a real understanding of trade capture and settlement mechanics.
• Experience with investment administration or accounting software.
• Strong technical skills: SQL, data modelling, API design and REST, JSON and XML, and specifying integrations with middleware, message queues or ETL tools.
• Proven experience documenting requirements, data mappings and test plans, and comfort writing user stories and acceptance criteria.
• A solid understanding of internal controls and audit processes, with experience supporting internal and external audits.
• A bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, business, computer science, information systems or a related field.
• Clear, concise technical documentation and executive summaries, and the credibility to run a workshop with operations and engineering in the same room.

Nice to have

• Some experience with cloud platforms and machine learning tooling (AWS), or close collaboration with cloud and ML teams.
• Hands-on exposure to workflow automation and API-based integrations.
• Experience using AI in automation tasks to cut time to delivery.
