Financial Accountant (Month-End, Reconciliations, Automation)

A growing fintech that moves money across borders every day is looking for a Financial Accountant. Several entities, several currencies, money moving through multiple corridors daily — and a finance function being automated as fast as it scales. This is an accounting seat with a genuine data and systems edge to it.

You will play an active part in month-end, own how costs are attributed across the business, reconcile the accounts that carry the money, and keep tax compliance on time. The part that makes it interesting is the other half of the job: finding the manual, repetitive work and engineering it away, so reporting and reconciliation increasingly run themselves.

What you’ll do

• Carry your part of the monthly close — journals posted, balances interrogated, and the numbers standing up before anything is signed off
• Reconcile the bank and aggregator statements sitting under every payment, the control that matters most when funds cross several corridors and currencies in a single day, and read the data for breaks and odd patterns while they are still small
• Take the reporting that repeats every month — the schedules, the journals, the routine reconciliations — and engineer the manual effort out of it
• Own how cost is attributed across products and business units, so leadership can see where money actually goes instead of estimating it
• Build the dashboards and reporting views that show cost and performance moving as it happens, rather than six weeks later
• Support the payment run approval process, and keep company loan and inter-company balances reconciled and captured on time
• Watch the payment and loan data for irregularities, and run them to ground before they turn into something bigger
• Work alongside treasury and the FX trader so that operating needs, the currency exposure and the financial plan line up across corridors
• Push the reconciliation and payment data that travels between systems towards being faster, cleaner and more automated, with the tech operations team alongside you
• Help embed finance process and control as the business changes shape, and make sure new workflows and tools are genuinely adopted once they land
• Carry the audit requests and the tax work: the returns and the supporting schedules behind SARB and STATS SA submissions, plus PAYE, VAT and income tax
• Get pulled into whatever the finance project of the quarter turns out to be — analysis, automation, a reporting rebuild — because no two weeks in a scaling fintech look alike

What you’ll need

• A completed BCom in accounting, financial accounting or something close to it
• Four years or more in an accounting role, with real time spent on close, reconciliations and reporting
• South African tax handled in practice rather than in theory — income tax, VAT and PAYE
• Xero used hands-on, not supervised from a distance
• Excel at the level where big data sets, schedules and financial analysis hold no fear, and where you build reporting that templates or runs itself
• Detail that survives pressure, and the temperament to hold several deadlines open at once

Nice to have

• Another ERP or two behind you
• Anything from the analysis and automation toolkit — SQL, Power BI, Power Query or their equivalents
• Time inside a business running several entities or several currencies, financial services or fintech especially
