Functional Tester
Location: Cape Town (hybrid, 3 days in office)

About the role
We’re working with an established retail business that needs a Functional Tester to help ensure the quality and stability of its systems. You’ll work closely with developers, product managers, and other stakeholders, owning test planning and execution and catching defects early.
What you’ll do
• Perform static testing to identify defects early in the development lifecycle
• Work closely with developers, product managers, and stakeholders to ensure shared understanding of requirements and quality standards
• Develop and maintain comprehensive test plans and test cases
• Execute manual test cases, analyze results, and provide actionable feedback
• Report and track software bugs and defects with clear, detailed documentation
• Oversee maintenance of the test environment and associated data
• Provide standby after-hours application support on a rotational basis to keep critical systems stable
What you’ll bring
• Proven experience in software QA or testing
• A strong understanding of the SDLC and QA methodologies
• Proven experience in an Agile/Scrum environment
Nice to have
• Experience with JIRA or similar bug-tracking software
• Familiarity with database queries, specifically SQL
• Experience testing APIs with tools like Postman or SoapUI
• Previous testing experience in retail, FMCG, or supply chain
• ISTQB certification
• Strong technical writing for structured test plans, test cases, and quality reports
• Familiarity with bespoke, in-house enterprise or proprietary retail applications
