We’re working with an established consumer digital business, and they’re looking for an Intermediate Front-End Engineer (React) to build fast, reliable and accessible user interfaces.
You’ll work closely with designers, backend engineers and product managers to ship features end-to-end, improve performance and contribute to a maintainable, well-tested codebase. It suits someone who can independently own medium-sized features from planning to production while still growing on the more complex architectural calls.
What you’ll do
• Build user-facing features in React (hooks-first) with clean, reusable, component-driven patterns
• Turn Figma designs into responsive, production-ready components and contribute to a component library (Storybook)
• Manage client and server state (React Query, SWR, Context/Reducer) and integrate REST APIs with proper caching, pagination and error handling
• Write unit and integration tests (Jest, React Testing Library) and contribute to CI, code reviews and documentation
• Optimise rendering, bundle size and runtime performance, and uphold WCAG AA accessibility
• Support front-end incident triage, debugging and root-cause analysis
What you’ll bring
• 3–5 years’ front-end experience, with 3+ years in React
• Strong JavaScript (ES6+) and TypeScript
• Solid CSS and responsive design, including Tailwind
• Experience with Next.js, Vite or CRA, and confident Git workflows
• REST API integration, and familiarity with accessibility (WCAG AA) and internationalisation
Advantageous
• Contributing to or maintaining a Storybook-based component library
• Mentoring junior developers
• Exposure to high-volume, high-traffic consumer platforms

In office with flexitime, based in Cape Town or Johannesburg.
