A well established technology distribution business in Cape Town is looking for a Junior Business and Systems Analyst to join its internal systems team. This is a first or second job, based in the office, and it is a genuine career start rather than a support desk role.
You will sit between the business and its systems. That means spending time with the sales, warehouse, finance and marketing teams to work out what they actually need, writing it down clearly so it can be built, helping test it when it is ready, and keeping the documentation for every system honest and up to date. There is a data side too: making sure the numbers the business decides on are accurate, and helping build dashboards that make them easy to see.
You will be learning directly from the person who owns the company systems, with real exposure to automation and to practical uses of AI.
What you’ll do
- Sit with people across the business and turn what they need into clear, written requirements
- Write functional specifications that a developer or an automation can be built from
- Map current business processes and document how the systems and data actually flow
- Coordinate user testing: plan the scenarios, walk the business through it, track the issues, get sign off
- Own the system documentation, the standard operating procedures and a growing internal knowledge base
- Check and maintain business data so reporting can be trusted, and help build dashboards
- Help create and maintain automations and integrations across the toolset
- Be the first person the business asks when they have a process or data question
What you’ll need
- A completed degree in Information Systems, Informatics, Computer Science, Information Technology or Industrial Engineering
- Up to two years of working experience. Recent graduates are very welcome, and no experience at all is fine if the degree is right
- Clear written English. A large part of this job is writing things down so other people can rely on them
- Genuine curiosity: the sort of person who keeps asking why until they find the real cause
- Comfortable talking to people at every level of a business, from the warehouse floor to the finance office
- Able to work in the office in Cape Town five days a week
Nice to have, but not required
- Any exposure to an ERP, a CRM or a work management platform, through an internship, a project or a part time job
- Some working knowledge of SQL, and comfort with structured data such as JSON
- Process mapping or flowcharting, for example BPMN or swimlane diagrams
- Any low code automation tool, for example Zapier or Power Automate
- A basic understanding of AI and where it is genuinely useful in a business
- An awareness of data privacy and POPIA
- Basic HTML, CSS or JavaScript
If you have just finished a relevant degree and you want to learn how a real business runs on its systems, this is an unusually good place to start.
