Operations Manager (Payments, Contracts, Brand and Marketing)

Operations here is not a support function — it is the machine the business runs on, and this seat owns it end to end. If you would rather be handed an ambiguous problem and trusted with it than work a narrow lane inside somebody else’s process, keep reading.

The job is three things at once: the operational spine behind partner onboarding, payments and contracts; the reporting that sits over all of it; and the way the business looks and sounds to the market. You will be the person external partners and providers deal with day to day, the person engineering and risk turn to when something in the data or in a signed document does not look right, and the person who produces the deck, the one-pager and the stand. It is a financial technology business, and the seat is based in Cape Town.

What you’ll do

• Partner operations — lead the onboarding and launch of new commercial partners, and own the day-to-day relationship once they are up and running.
• Payment operations — final sign-off on outbound payment runs, preparing and distributing the supporting documentation, reconciling payment provider reports, and resolving or escalating payment issues.
• Contracts and compliance administration — drafting and amending commercial agreements, running contract audits and retrieval exercises, managing renewals, and coordinating data protection agreements with legal counsel.
• Build and maintain the reporting dashboards the business and its partners run on, covering volumes, conversion and performance.
• Be the first point of contact for engineering and risk on partner data issues, onboarding drop-offs and contract-signing errors, and lead the commercial and risk calls on exception cases.
• Administer the operational tooling the team works in — CRM, helpdesk, analytics and telephony — including access, integrations and troubleshooting.
• Brand, marketing and events — own the brand and design assets, templates, decks and one-pagers; plan and run the company’s presence at industry events; and produce external content and marketing collateral.

What you’ll need

• Proven experience in an operations, business operations or generalist operations role — ideally in fintech, payments or a fast-growing startup.
• Comfort owning ambiguous, cross-functional problems without heavy oversight; this is a highly autonomous role.
• Real attention to detail and reliability when handling contracts, payments and compliance-sensitive material.
• Confidence owning external relationships end to end — partners, vendors and outsourced service providers — including escalation routes, contract terms, renewals and the difficult conversations that go with them.
• Comfort working with data and reporting tools, building and maintaining dashboards yourself.
• A design-literate communicator, at home producing polished brand and marketing collateral, and happy to own that side of the job rather than hand it off.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, and the discretion to handle sensitive customer, financial and legal information.
• Highly organised, able to juggle several workstreams at once and keep each of them moving.

Nice to have

• Experience administering or migrating a modern CRM and helpdesk stack.
• Payments or lending operations experience.
• Experience planning or running industry events.
