About the role
We’re working with a leading independent global asset manager with deep roots in South Africa, where technology is a strategic pillar of the firm. Their Investment Technology team designs, builds, and operates the platforms, data foundations, and ways of working that support investment, distribution, and operational capabilities globally, with a strong shift towards AI-centred ways of working built for automation, intelligence, and scale.
This is a great opportunity to join a growing Investment Technology team and improve business outcomes across the technology stack and the wider firm. It’s worth saying upfront: this isn’t a straight Business Analyst role, but it needs a BA mindset. The core of the job is analysing and designing better processes, then writing the specs that allow AI to build solutions, so there’s no coding involved, but strong analytical and technical understanding is essential. You’ll work directly with Product Owners and front-office domain experts, bridging the gap between technologists and investment professionals.
What you’ll do
• Use technology to enable better outcomes in line with the IT strategy
• Analyze and design better processes, delivering precise, accurate, impactful outcomes across all asset types for the investment teams and clients
• Be hands-on and in the detail of investment technology deliveries, bridging the knowledge gap between technologists and investment professionals
• Produce accurate Agile features and specs (spec-based development for AI) to drive new ways of working
• Work collaboratively across teams and keep stakeholder engagement high
• Work with Engineering Leads and Product Owners to deliver value iteratively in an Agile way
• Take part in regular design, planning, and architecture sessions
• Make sure outcomes are clear, functional, measurable, and genuinely valuable
• Use modern tooling to analyze data and build automations
What you’ll bring
• At least 3 years in financial services or asset management
• An understanding of how an asset manager’s investment processes work, and a desire to modernize them
• An understanding of data and data flows (data and systems architecture)
• Strong SQL skills
• Exposure to modern tooling such as Python (or other languages) to reduce manual effort, derive insight from data, and enable AI-driven (spec-based) development
• Experience consuming HTTP APIs (e.g. REST, GraphQL) as well as databases and files
• A relevant degree is beneficial but not required
• You enjoy problem-solving and working with interesting people
• You dislike being spoon-fed or told exactly what to do and how
What they look for in a person
• Takes ownership and continuously looks for ways to develop
• Driven by results
• Recognizes and embraces change
• Intellectual curiosity and a strong desire to learn
