A technology business in consumer asset finance is looking for a Senior Software Engineer in Cape Town, building the platforms that let customers buy essential goods on credit and pay them off over time.
This is deliberately not a role where you code all day in one stack. You’ll build across the ecosystem — cloud services, several front-ends, native Android — and you’ll be expected to own commercial outcomes, not just tickets.
What you’ll do
- Build across the stack: cloud services in AWS with Terraform and Python, custom front-ends in various JavaScript frameworks, native Android, and low-code app builds
- Own business outcomes, and do the work beyond software needed to make things happen
- Understand users whose experience of technology is very different from yours — which takes empathy, patience and a willingness to challenge your own assumptions
- Coach and mentor a talented team of developers, improving standard practice and developer culture
- Take a front-row seat in the architecture of new and existing systems, designing for long-term resilience and efficiency
What you’ll need
- 6+ years of relevant software development experience
- Proficiency in JavaScript, Python or similar
- At least one backend framework such as FastAPI, including managing database, compute and external integrations
- Demonstrated ability to design web and native apps with complex external integrations, for resilience and efficiency
- Hands-on AWS, and familiarity with test-driven development and strong developer workflows
- A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field
- Front-end frameworks such as Vue, or UX design experience, are a strong plus
